Carbondale Community High school has a very unique parking lot situation. The busiest times of the lot are in the mornings and most definitely after school. It’s almost impossible to turn left out of the parking lot. There’s a single one way road on top of two ways in the parking lot that lets you find a parking spot.

The challenge comes in when people do not wish to wait in the designated pick up lane, instead they just park their car wherever they feel like. This then causes an even bigger disruption, the cars park in the handicap spot or they even park in front of the senior parking spots making it impossible for them to leave. Doing so with no care in the world is making the whole flow of traffic incredibly messed up. Having the cars park in front of the senior parking spots also blocks the way for cars wishing to leave because they are blocking the designated lane. If you wish to leave you have to cross into the incoming traffic lane to go around the cars. 

“I do not feel like the current parking lot system is effective because it takes forever to get out of the parking lot and a lot of athletes are late to practices that start at 3:30, 3:15. I think a beneficial change would be Officer Thomas directing traffic at the end of the day letting cars get out and blocking the oncoming traffic.”

“ Firstly I think our parking lot at CCHS is a mess that needs to be fixed and eradicated immediately. [the traffic] ends up backing out past the lights out on the intersection. And when I’m turning I’ll get stopped at a green light but I can’t go because there’s people.”
