Carbondale Community High School’s current phone policy states that cell phones are only to be used for educational purposes.
Other than that they are not allowed during instructional time.
The Official Policy is Bell to Bell No Cell.
In most classes they’re almost never being used.
In P.E. classes you don’t need your phone.
The phone policy was piloted during the 25-26 school year and fully implemented for the following year
During school hours the policy is called “bell to bell no cell”.
During class time most classes have the students put their phone in the “phone pouch”.
In classes like study hall, terrier time, and strength training you are allowed to have your phones if the teacher gives the okay.
Students are allowed to be on their phones in the hallways and during passing periods.
“ I think we can take it from even a more broader scale to how phone use in society affects kids, adults, everybody and if we apply phone use in society to classrooms i don’t think it’s any surprise that it’s a distraction and if students have their phone in their pocket or on their desk then they are almost instinctively checking it,” Principal Thomas said
“It really just distracts them from wanting to be on their phones all the time and them not wanting to do their work,” Perez said
