Tamyra Fox is a Senior journalism student at Carbondale Community High School. Though it is her first year at this school, she has learned many things and met many people through the journalism class.
Fox loves to learn new things, and that is something she has done during Journalism class. She has learned to dig deeper for information, and not just taking things at face value. She has also learned that she enjoys using a camera.
“(I’ve improved) using the camera, having photography skills, and capturing the moment,” says Fox. “When I’m working with others, I prefer to take the role of photography. I found a very good passion with using the camera.”
There have been many assignments done in the class, but Fox’s favorite was the first interviewing assignment because it caused her to meet and talk to new people she may not have otherwise.
“It made me meet my best friend, Eva Throgmorton,” says Fox. “That’s my best friend now, even though we’re like Yin and Yang.”
Fox sees herself using the skills she has learned in journalism throughout her life because she finds these skills important. She has learned to communicate with others, which she believes is important for not only friends, but also jobs and opportunities. She has learned to dig deeper and ask more questions, not just to find more information, but more information about the right things. She also sees herself using the timeliness skills she has learned to make sure she gets projects done on time.
She encourages people to take the class, and to use their creativity but also take the class seriously. It has helped her improve on skills that she knows she will use in everyday life in the future, and she knows it would help others in their future as well.
“Take the class seriously,” says Fox. “Because though it is easy… don’t take it for granted. Actually take it seriously and work in a timely manner, (but) also use your creativity to your highest extent.”
Fox is known by others as intelligent, exciteful, and kind hearted, and also has an interest in learning new things when she isn’t in the classroom. Currently, she has learned Korean, French, Hindi, American Sign Language, and more. She also plays piano and creates dance routines.
