Anyone who has ever ran track or has wanted to run track needs to know that it’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. All to just be a couple seconds or milliseconds faster to keep running even when you don’t feel you’re getting any faster or improving. All the long and tiring workouts. “If you run with people who are slower than you, you will always win. If you run against people who are faster than you, you will get stronger”.
Coach Mykel Garry the head coach of the track team and facilitator of record holding athletes.
“If you don’t try i cant help you” said Garry which brings this bible quote to mind . “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. And what does that mean basically he can help you within your own will but without the effort from you your goals will not be within reach. Making any goal a reality comes with discipline and a mindset to keep going even though it’s hard.
Mogo Kebinang is a track athlete attending Carbondale Community High School, a first team all conference and 3 year state runner and qualifier.
“I think pre season workouts kind of separates the disciplined from the lazies. Like you can have the fastest kid who comes when the regular season starts but the kid who’s been showing up their level of commitment and work ethic that separates the two.” said Kebinang
The benefits of running during the preseason is that you’re in better shape, you learn real life lessons, time management, etc plus it gives you time to bond and build a connection with your coaches and your peers early on.
Track is a mentally challenging sport but Carbondale Community High TxF is a family. We may not share everything going on in our personal lives but we laugh together, we run together, suffer together, support together and we WIN together. Track is seen as an individual sport but to have a good team you have to have a good core. This experience is something that will stick with you throughout all the trials and tribulations.
