As the winter season approaches, the K-pop dance club prepares for their next performance during CCHS’ winter pep rally on February 6th, 2026.
The K-pop dance club consists of Hope Magee as the leader, Kyla Ford as assistant leader, Kylah Walls as the manager, Tamyra Fox as the social media coordinator, with Brailey Brunken, Hailey Land and Lesly Colin-Martinez as dancers. The group calls themselves the “Ztarlight dance group”.
After much discussion, the leaders decided the group will be dancing to “Attitude” by a K-pop girl group called “IVE”.

Fatima Calmese, the school’s administrative assistant for the counseling department, is the current sponsor for the K-pop dance club.
“The K-pop dance club is a student-led club where they focus on K-pop music and K-pop dances.” Calmese said, “They’re a performance club.”
The club has been a part of CCHS for more than 5 years, prior to Calmese’s hiring 3 years ago. Besides dancing they do fundraisers, club events, and work concessions for sporting events.
Across CCHS, the members of the K-pop club have been questioned about the “requirements” to join the club. Many believe you have to be a fan of the K-pop genre, or dance to join the club.
“Our club is open to everyone.” Calmese said, “It’s a come as you are club, so you can come interested in K-pop or not.”
In prior years, they’ve had members that have chosen to participate in performances, but still help out and participate in their own ways. For example, Walls worked behind the scenes in prior years. She would help members clean up their moves, and even learn the dances, without having to perform in the performances.
Despite being a small club, K-pop dance club create a large presence in the school community. During the school’s activity fair on August 21st, they performed a piece from the dance “Gnarly” by a girl group called Katseye.
Then for the school’s Powder Puff game on October 15th, they performed halftime for students vs. faculty halftime, to the song “Strategy” by a girl group called Twice.
As February creeps closer, the girls of the Ztarlight dance group, continue cleaning up and practicing for their performance. They’re currently working on formations and discussing outfits to wear for the day of. Anyone interested in joining the K-pop dance club, they have meeting every week, Tuesday and Thursday.
