Carbondale Community High School spotlight program is #3 on the strategic plan implemented by the committee members: Mr. Moberly, Mrs. Mueller, Mrs. Mannczynski, Mrs. Wood, and Mrs. Love.
The program is designed to highlight faculty and staff. They’re chosen at random once a week. Once chosen they get an email congratulating them and a graphic made of them and all their accomplishments while also saying how long they have been at CCHS. They get to pick a free cool terrier shirt from the admin.
One way they recognize the teachers is through the spotlight program. It’s a way for the community to see the amazing staff of CCHS. They post them on social media and put them on the news board posted up outside of the school with a lot of fancy lights to get attention.
One of the main focuses at CCHS is teacher retention.
“Retention gives stability in our building of expectation of excellence that we have here at CCHS” said Mrs. Love.
Teacher retention not only helps the school itself, but it also helps the students within. When teachers stay with the school district it builds trust between student and teacher. It leads to better outcomes in difficult situations.
This is only one way the committee is working on showing teachers appreciation.
“The committee is still trying to figure out how to highlight teachers in different ways” said Mr. Thomas.
When admin builds a relationship with the teachers and understands that every person has a different love language it’s easier to find out what everyone needs. It takes countless hours of communicating with staff figuring out how to recognize them because every person is different.
When teachers feel appreciated, they feel more connected to the school which helps with teacher retention.
