3 Tips for starting a small business

Having to start a business through the Jackson CEO program at Carbondale, with little disposition to what it would be like was and still has been, very nerve wracking. While I am no expert, I have found something people may miss trying to start a business that could be really beneficial.

Know what you definitely want to do long before you officially start up

Running blindly into something as large as running a business without what direction you want to take it in can be overwhelming. This could cause you to lose focus or motivation in your business. This also means you’ll probably have a direction you intend to take with the business if it takes off well or at very least know how you intend to start it.

Make connections

It can be intimidating to share your business with the world, especially when you’re new. You can’t be worried what people will think about your business, you need to get over it. If you can’t convince consumers to buy from you and support your company, it’s difficult to make money. Connections aren’t just possible customers, they can be suppliers in the future, or they can help with critical thinking in how to solve a problem you haven’t dealt with yet in your business. These are especially true if you make connections with people that are in the same industry or have been in business for a longer time.

Make sure you enjoy what you’re doing.

You aren’t going to be able to put effort into something you have no interest in. When it comes to work or school work we all experience that lack of motivation with wanting to put in effort but it gets done to pay bill or get the grade. If you are starting a small business you want it to be what you enjoy both for mental health and for your businesses health.
