The CCHS Library has become a hot commodity over the past 3 years. It received a new Librarian, Dawn Taylor. New programs implemented to get students to read more, called the ¨CCHS Million Words Club.¨ As well as a different set up and all around a different energy than the years before the coming of Mrs.Taylor.

I took this as an opportunity to ask kids who spend their time in the library how they felt about the change, the new librarian and a multitude of other questions. Just to get a sense of the library changes from others! Marritt Vaughn states, ¨The library is a safe place and an enjoyable place now, instead of the cliche ¨study¨ scene.¨ This was a very common response, as I stated most kids are finding the change of the libraries physicality rather enjoyable and much more enjoyable to be within. Justin Grant says, ¨I have noticed kids coming in here with positive attitudes, happy to be here. In comparison to some libraries where its like a drag to be there¨

I also asked students how they felt about Mrs.Taylor as a librarian and her impact on them personally. ¨If I need someone to talk to, she’s there with a cookie and some tea to talk through whatever it is. She’s changed my life as well as the lives of every other student she encountered.¨ Vaughn replies. ¨She’s like the school mom, anyone can talk with her about anything. She’s more than just someone who checks out your books for you,¨ says Grant

Beyond these responses, I’ve seemed to get the same idea. Mrs.Taylor and the library made a positive impact on many students and has changed many kids’ outlooks on coming to school, their academics and even reading! It will be an exciting thing to watch grow in the years to come.
