A Year of Utter Dominance

Dylan Perrott

This past Sunday, the Boston Red Sox won game five of the 2018 World Series to clinch their ninth championship in club history.  The Sox defeated Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers, who have now lost in the Fall Classic in consecutive years. The Red Sox dominated the Dodgers in every aspect of the series.  The only abnormal aspect of the series was the record setting 18 inning game three that was won by the Dodgers. This game was highlighted by outstanding pitching performances from Walker Buehler of the Dodgers and Nathan Eovaldi of the Red Sox.  The game ended on a walk off home run by Max Muncy to send Dodger fans home happy.

The Red Sox proved that they are the best team in baseball and have been since spring training.   Boston had the best record in spring training, the fourth best regular season record in baseball history with 108 wins and 54 losses.  In the playoffs, they ran through the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, losing one game to each opponent. This brings up a question: Are the 2018 Boston Red Sox one of the greatest baseball teams since the expansion era?

In my opinion, they are one of the best, but not the best team in recent history. The 1998 New York Yankees top my list due to their star-studded roster filled with talent. The Red Sox are insanely gifted offensively and have a strong starting staff.  In the off-season they will address their bullpen. It will be interesting to watch how they do next year, attempting to defend their crown.
