Monday, February 16th was National School Resource Officer Day. CCHS is lucky to have Officer Rhakem Thomas. A school resource officer is the first line of defense in a worst case scenario. “Just the safety of the school, the school environment. Uh it’s more like a environment. Don’t have to really worry about the different activities out there as far as crime most of the time in school. Um it’s an educational uh environment, so kids are learning. definitely get more of a mentor role too. Kind of coaching kids up, kind of get kids ready for the future. Also answering questions and just being there for them when it comes to questions about law enforcement.” said Officer Thomas. Even in his first year as the school resource officer, Officer Thomas has made a lasting impact on the students. “I can tell them just let you know that you’re human, too. I’m not just a gun and a badge.”
