People would describe senior Kayla Maclin as motivated, quiet, and encouraging who is currently enrolled in the CCHS journalism class.
Her interest outside of journalism class also portrays her focus on the details. She enjoys going on hikes and walks to take in the scenery, and maintain her constant calm demeanor. She also loves hanging out with her chihuahuas Rosie and Cocoa.
In journalism class Maclin is a well planned and thought out writer who makes sure that she focuses on the details. Her process includes planning out the path of the article before she starts even writing.
Her pre-planning skills presented themselves most differently when she made the wise decision to take the journalism English course her senior year, so that she can learn alternative applications of English.
She is heavily motivated by growing and seeing her improvement in the articles content and in the speed and effectiveness of the writing prosses. The words flow through the keyboard much easier than when she wrote her first article.
“My favorite assignment would be the first one we did, just because I think it was kind of bad compared to the other ones to show me how I’ve progressed.” Maclin says.
Maclin believes that the reason she meets deadlines is so that she has time to revise the article if she has made mistakes.
“The timeliness part of it, if you turn in late you get a worse grade, so I want to be able to get a good grade and have time to fix it if I need to.” Maclin says when asked what motivates you to turn work in on time.
Kayla’s advice to anyone interested in journalism in or out of school, is to plan ahead. Be that the structure of the article or when you are going to finish so you have time to edit.
