Despite having to miss days off of school due to senior Logan Wright’s dedication to his sports, golf, baseball and bowling, Wright is a dedicated journalist and a kindhearted person. Taking journalism with the goal of experiencing something out of the norm of a typical English class, Wright was able to learn organizational skills that helped him in his everyday life.
“I used the article style to help me figure out what things work together, and it’s helped me, not just in my writing, but just in like, everything else.” Wright said.
Wright applies the organizational skills from journalism to his sports, schoolwork and life at home, leading people to see him as a very reliable person despite being a teenager.
“…in sports I tend to lose things, so it kind of helps me keep all my equipment together.” Wright said, “But I also do it with my schoolwork, because it helps me keep track of different assignments and make sure I’m just staying on top of it. Keeping different assignments away from others that could get mixed up. Stuff at home, just like keeping my clothes more organized. I’ve noticed I keep my long sleeve shirts separate from my short sleeve shirts, and I just organize stuff like that.:”
Journalism hasn’t been the easiest thing in the world for Wright, specifically interviewing people.
“If I don’t know them well, it can make me nervous.” Wright said.
However, like most things, the more you do something the better you get at it.
“I’ve definitely gained confidence in [interviewing people].” Wright said, “It’s gotten easier as I keep doing it. Just the more different people I talk to, the more comfortable I get…”
Despite the challenges Wright faces with journalism, he pushes through to get the article finished. With the journalistic desire to get the information out to the public, Wright pushes past his
difficulties.
Journalism allowed Wright to not just grow as a journalist but as a person especially during his senior year. Whether it’s looking over his peers’ articles or doing everything he can to get his article published, he does it with thoughtfulness in a timely manner. Though the class is something that Wright enjoys, he knows that procrastination will not get you anywhere in the class.
“Enjoy the class.” Wright said.
