There’s a large variety of interesting clubs at Carbondale Community High School, if you didn’t know already from attending the activity fair during your lunch period in the beginning of the year. One of these interesting clubs is Anime club.
With their sponsor, Ms Vieceli or Ms V, they spend their time in the library after school on Mondays from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm. They often watch anime with a lot of action and fighting, as requested by their members, and switch what anime they watch depending on the members moods.
They’ve also done some movies in the past on specific occasions, like the Jujitsu Kaisen movie, where they spread out watching it over 2 days. In previous years, they’ve watched anime ranging from Spy x Family, Kaiju no. 8, and various episodes of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures.
Along with watching anime, Ms V tries to plan out activities for the club to do together every 3 weeks. Their last meeting was on December 10th, and they made sushi for the whole club before continuing to watch Gachikuta.

Gachikuta is a dystopian anime about a boy being framed for the murder of his foster father, set in a world where criminals and trash are dumped in “The Pit” by the upperclass. After being found guilty, he vows to take revenge on the people who killed his foster father and dumped him in The Pit.
However, they have plans to start a new anime when they come back for the new semester, so this is a great time to join the anime club and put in your suggestions for what to watch next.
”There should be some new anime coming out then,” Ms V said. “The winter anime season should be out around then so we’ll look at it and see which one we might want to watch”
Anime club has 16 members, who often fluctuate in attendance, but they’re always welcoming new members with open arms and encourage new people to join.
“I like hanging out with people there,” Javon Adams said. “I might as well be the co-sponser!”
Don’t be afraid to come and say hi, and see if the anime club is a good fit for you. Anime club restarts on the first Monday when we get back after winter break.
