Terrier Esports has something to offer for everyone, including those with a more niche taste geared towards online cards. Among their many teams, they have a Hearthstone team that is in need of some help.
Hearthstone is an online card game made by Blizzard Entertainment, and is similar to Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. It’s a turn based strategy card game that uses the lore of the Warcraft series, a fantasy video game, and book series akin to Dungeons and Dragons with a focus on things like Orcs, humans, and magic.
In the game, you collect cards and create decks of 30 cards. From there, you use your deck to summon various monsters and heroes and use magic to defeat your opponents and get them to 0 life points. It’s also completely digital, which makes it significantly easier for people everywhere to play it. Despite that, there’s only one person on the team, Isaiah Price, the team captain and high school senior.
The Hearthstone team competes on Mondays and matches start at 4 pm. It often takes about an hour to finish, with the winner being the person who wins 3 rounds. The team is always looking for new players, regardless of skill level, considering how small the team is and how their captain will graduate soon.
“Yeah, if I’m not there, then we lose instantly”, Price said.

Terrier Esports has been a club at the school for three years, but Hearthstone only joined their roster this year. Jesse Krutsinger and Clint Mifflin, the Esports sponsors, are confident that if more people were aware of the game that the team would grow in size.
“What’s fun about Hearthstone is being able to compete with other students around the nation in a competitive TCG”, Mifflin said.
If you’re a fan of things like Dungeons and Dragons, card games, or the World of Warcraft game, Esports encourages you to come and join the team. Unfortunately, this season of Hearthstone is almost over. However, all students are encouraged to ask Krutsinger and Mifflin about joining the club and playing Hearthstone in the spring semester.
You can find Mifflin in the Media Center in room B201 and you can email Krutsinger at [email protected]. Esports meets nearly every day after school if you would like to speak with them in person too.
