It’s officially the scariest night of the year, and while everyone in CCHS and beyond has been showing off their elaborate costumes, one party stood out—BTD X MSA in Carbondale, IL. Despite a last-minute location change and a late start in preparation, the party crew kept everyone on their toes by dropping the flyer three weeks ahead. Even with the surprise switch, the party did not disappoint. After a less-than-stellar event a month earlier, BTD was determined to shake the city with a party of a lifetime.
Despite the last-minute shuffle, the vibe at BTD X MSA was electric. The venue was packed, and the music kept everyone moving all night long. The crowd showed up in full force, bringing energy and excitement. I caught up with a Money Walker on his way to the party and asked how BTD managed to pull it off on such short notice. “We wanted to let everyone know BTD could shake the city, so they made it happen. This party wasn’t just a party—it was a statement.” said money walker BTD made it clear they can throw down, turning what could have been a flop into a night to remember. Carbondale better watch out—this is just the beginning.
Following the epic success of the first BTD X MSA party, the crew threw a Part 2 that unfortunately took a darker turn. According to the Carbondale Police Department, just after midnight on November 2, officers responded to reports of gunshots near the 400 block of W. Cherry Street. When they arrived, several people were seen fleeing the scene. The police later found two firearms that had been discarded, along with empty bullet casings. In the aftermath, 18-year-old Brandon J. Moore from Oklahoma was arrested for resisting and obstructing a peace officer, and 39-year-old Lanika L. White from Carbondale was taken into custody on a warrant for driving with a suspended license. While the first party was a statement of energy and comeback, the second reminded everyone of the challenges that can come with big nights out.
