“What is the 1,000lbs club?” Is the question lots of people ask, well even if you do know what it is let a few of the members and the founder give a little insight on the club. This club is open to anyone who attends CCHS and wants to be a part of it.
Essentially the 1,000lbs club is a club where students do different workouts that all add up to 1,000lbs and if you achieve this goal then you are now a part of the club. Also the club is open to all ages and genders so that means anyone can join/be a part of this club. There is more to this club and everyone in said club has different goals, ambitions and reasonings for joining the club.
John Martin joined the club with different reasons/intentions from other members. For example he joined for bragging rights and to get stronger, but given his initial intentions with the club his main objective has changed into improvement in his sport and to make him more competitive.
Christian Caffey has a slight different approach to the whole club, he views the club as a way to improve and an outlet to work on self.
“It gives people who are lifting in class a goal to hit and when your lifting and getting stronger you have to have a goal,” Caffey said.
Caffey also sees this club as motivation in a way and his reasoning behind this is mainly for sports and holding one self accountable and responsible. This club is also very helpful if your are in any sport and Caffey feels as though should be apart of this club because it does your performance.
“I play sports and in any sport you have to be strong,” Caffey said.
Coach Smith the founder has THE vision for his club and it is coming out to be exactly what he intended it to be. Smith’s intention with this club is to motivate kids/students to want to work harder and get stronger.
“Kids didn’t want to go to the weight room, kids didn’t want to lift so I tried to make this club to get kids to buy in,” Smith said.
Smith feels as if the club is a great motivator for kids to work harder, get stronger, and it also brings a “competitive edge” to weight lifting. The club has also given him motivation and makes him want to work harder and get stronger.
“It’s a different kind of feeling that a paycheck can’t compare to when you see kids light up when they get their shirt for the first time,” Smith said.
Joseph Frierdich is a young student at CCHS and has a sort of different approach to the club. Frierdich’s coach (Coach Smith) just told him to work and recommended that he join the club. Fridge feels as though athletes should definitely join this club.
“They’ll be better athletes all around because they’re stronger then most, they work harder than most athletes,” Frierdich said.
This club helps everyone in many ways and is nothing but positive for all the members and even the found.
“Before I felt like I was just weak but now since I’m in 1,000lb club I feel like I’m a big dog,” Frierdich said.
