Ranking the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

20. Thor: The Dark World

If you were planning a Marvel movie marathon and needed a time to nap, this would be your time. A very dry movie with little character development and very little entertainment.

19. The Incredible Hulk

Very little amounts of comedy in this film, which is odd knowing that Hulk is more of a comedy-based character now. Hulk has changed for the better and his old character is left in the past. Also, Mark Ruffalo, the current Hulk, is way cooler than Edward Norton so that takes it down a bit as well.

18. Thor

The best thing about this movie is that it wasn’t the as bad as the sequel so therefore it can’t be the worst. Again, a dry movie with characters that aren’t very likable.

17. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Image result for avengers age of ultron

Basically a copy of the first movie with a few more characters and a floating city. The movie itself is alright but after watching The Avengers, you feel like you’ve already seen the whole thing. Little creativity and little excitement compared to the first.

16. Iron Man 2

This one seems as if they sort of just threw another Iron Man out there after the success of the first one. Not that great of a movie but Robert Downey Jr. just pulls the whole movie together and barely makes this one not terrible.

15. Ant-Man

A different take on a superhero but after watching Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain America Civil War it leaves you wondering why Ant-Man was so lame. The movie just doesn’t capture his abilities as well as the others did, but still entertaining.

14. Captain America: The First Avenger

A cool origin story for Captain America but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that he is lame and not funny. Honestly a pretty good action movie but lacks in other departments. Also, if you’re not a big Captain America fan like myself, his movies will probably seem lame and not enjoyable.

13. Ant-Man and the Wasp

It seems as if they tried to revamp the Ant-Man series by making him more powerful and also adding a sidekick that becomes a primary character. Still kind of underwhelming but some entertaining action scenes that wouldn’t be seen in other movies. It almost seems as if the creators realized how lame Ant-Man was in the first one and tried to step it up a bit.

12. Iron Man 3

A huge step from the second film, but still not close to the first. A ton of action with more comedy and development of minor characters. It makes others more lovable and Robert Downey Jr. does it again, saving the movie himself. His role as Iron Man is almost too perfect and I feel that if anybody else were Iron Man it wouldn’t be near as great.

11. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Just another Captain America film carried by action and only a tiny bit of Marvel comedy. Another one that makes you realize how much cooler everybody else is. However one of the best movies based on purely fighting scenes, but that’s what you get if you don’t have any cool powers.

10. The Avengers

The first crossover between the characters. A really fun and entertaining movie that is packed with action and comedy. A great movie that builds and develop both characters that we’ve already seen and characters that are new to us.

9. Spider-Man: Homecoming

When this movie first came out it was in my top 3. However, the more I watch it, the cheesier it gets. I really liked the idea of Spider-Man as a kid but everything seems to go almost too perfectly in this movie and times of serious action are lacking. Hopefully the next movie in the series can make it right.

8. Captain America: Civil War

Plain and simple, this movie is just entertaining. It honestly could have passed as another Avengers movie but I feel as if the Captain America series needed a good one to not be considered a flop. Also a very intriguing story that makes you think about what’s right for the Avengers.

7. Doctor Strange

A different take on a superhero movie where a man unintentionally becomes the protector of time and space. A very cool backstory to a very interesting and powerful character that doesn’t rely on comedy to make itself.

6. Black Panther

The more I watch Black Panther, the more I wish Michael B. Jordan was the Black Panther. I feel like Chadwick Boseman displays such a weak character and it would’ve been amazing if somebody electric like Jordan could have played him. The plot and action in this movie is one of the best but there was too much CGI and green-screens and it made the movie look unnatural. One of my favorites just based on plot.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

This is probably the most underrated movie that Marvel has made. The film gets so much unnecessary hate for not being as good as the first GotG when in reality, it is one of the best they have ever released. Plus the casting of Kurt Russell as Star-Lord’s dad just makes it so much better.

4. Avengers: Infinity War

This movie receives so much hate for no reason. The wide range of characters with intertwining plots that all eventually end in disaster is what makes it so much better. Not only is this film the most well put together, it also leaves the audience with a cliffhanger that nobody has the answer to. Very entertaining and interesting.

3. Iron Man

I rated this film so high mainly because of the time I grew up in. Iron Man came was released in 2008 and at the time I was 7 years old. This was the first superhero movie that I loved and watched many times. Not only is the movie fantastic, but it really set the bar for superhero movies to come.

2. Thor: Ragnarok

After having two of the worst movies in the MCU, Thor: Ragnarok was a different animal in this one. After years of being an underwhelming character, Thor becomes the single most badass superhero to ever live. The movie just completely revamps the Thor series and is one of the funniest and most entertaining movies in the MCU.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

This is quite possibly the greatest superhero movie of all time. The only other movie that comes close in my opinion is The Dark Knight. If you were looking for a movie with lovable characters, a hilarious script, and an amazing soundtrack, then look no further. This film was really a milestone in the MCU, it was the first time that comedy was the key focus in the movie and they knocked it out of the park with this one.
