It’s Homecoming time at CCHS. Homecoming festivities start Tuesday October 14th and the actual Hoco night is October 18th. As is tradition across the country, students run to be elected on the HOCO Court.
The Homecoming court is made up of students from all grades, freshman to seniors. Three boys and three girls make up the court for the freshman through juniors with our king and queen being chosen from a selection of 6 boys and 6 girls. The king and queen are announced during the Homecoming pep rally on October 17th.
Each candidate runs for different reasons. Senior Tamrya Fox feels as if the election is more of a popularity contest than anything else. She claimed if she was to be selected she would bring a type of “pizazz” for a multitude of reasons. An example of this is, she feels like she promoted herself better than other candidates.
“Only for the people who are on the ballot I feel like it’s positive for them and not for anybody else that’s on the outside watching they don’t really care,” Fox said
“I’m a very good person and I’m very confident, I would just bring that pizazz,” Fox stated.
Sophomore Samaj Austin has a lot of confidence that he’ll get elected as he has stated. He also believes this because of the fact he has brought snacks for people who voted for him in his class, another reason is simply because of his warm personality as he says “I’m Samaj”.
Austin also believes that the election within the school has brought the school together in a good way this is his reasoning.
“Positive way because everybody talking about ‘you don’t know who Samaj is?’ everybody laughing and joking, cracking jokes, there’s nothing negative,” Austin stated
Senior Grace Honald came with a more humble approach to this election and not feeling like she was the “best” candidate but was still confident that she would be on the court. Honald felt this way because of what she would bring to the court such as ‘Positivity and Enthusiasm’.
“It got people talking to each other, campaigning, talking to everybody in their grade,” Honald said.
If Taniyah Truitt was to be selected she would bring a more bubbly and friendly energy/type of environment. Truitt feels as if some of the candidates were/are more outgoing than others, including herself. Like each and every candidate Truitt is very loved and known by the administration.
“I feel like it can be both but some people can get more distraught on not making it but in other scenarios I feel like it can be good and bad,” Truitt said
