Pull up your sleeves and put on your boxing gloves, because CCHS’ seniors are fighting for the homecoming crown! On September 2nd seniors were open to sign up and petition for homecoming royalty. Then 52% of seniors voted for 6 senior girls and 6 senior boys to “fight” for the crown.
It started with 9 boys and 12 girls petitioning, but only left 6 each to show why they should win the homecoming crown. But the question is “how?” How will our candidates win homecoming royalty?
Seniors Lariah Marshall and Jaxon Marlow-Evans have plans to campaign together. Marshall is going to use the advantage of working at Texas Roadhouse to get rolls to pass out.
“You get one if you vote for me, two if you get a friend to vote for me, and if that friend gets a friend to vote for me you get three,” Marshall said.
Marshall wants to win queen to make up for her sister’s 2024 homecoming loss by one vote. Marlow-Evans however, has never ran for homecoming court before, and since it’s his senior year, he hopes to win to represent school positively.
“I think it would mean a lot [to win homecoming king], just to represent our school in a positive way,” Marlow-Evans said, “To be here for four years and see all the other people win [homecoming royalty] and how it affected them. I feel like it’s good for the culture…”
Senior Moxie Borrenpohl originally planned to campaign with senior Mogo Kebinang, using the play on their names both starting with “M”. However, Kebinang had a change of plans. Kebinang decided it would be better for him to campaign with Grace Honold due to them being partners when walking out during the homecoming pep rally on October 17th. “It just makes more sense,” Kebinang said. “I’ll be walking out with Grace [at the pep rally] anyway”
However, though Borrenpohl is a lone sailor, she has a strategy to target the largest class: freshman, and give them treats to gain the advantage. Both Kaelyn Viernum and Lilly Barr also have interesting campaigning plans. Viernum is going to bring treats and get custom T-shirts for her to wear. Barr is planning to give out chocolate
The rest of our candidates are either fine with simply being on the ballot, while the rest hope to gain votes with just a smile and conversation saying “vote for me!” Now let’s see who’s going to win the crown!
