CCHS students are getting ready for Valentine’s day. Most are celebrating Valentine’s day and some aren’t. Valentine’s day for younger adults can be exciting or dreadful. The students were interviewed on how they will spend their valentine’s day and how they feel about the holiday a few days before Valentines Day.
There are many couples in the CCHS community and most are ready for the holiday. Although some are not ready to spend all the money they are going to. There are mostly guys in relationships complaining about how inexpensive it is for a useless holiday. Some of the girls think of differently. They think that is a good day to show love and appreciate the person you are dating. In CCHS there are many mixed feeling of Valentines day.
Angie Vonahn, a senior at CCHS, says that she thinks it is a good holiday to keep around and some years she likes it, while other years she doesn’t. This Valentines day she is planning to spend the day with her friends and have a bunch of food. “The older I get the more Valentine’s day is less exciting.” She says this is how she feels because there isn’t as much fun and the world doesn’t stop and have fun like how it did when she was a kid.
The next person wasn’t as into Valentine’s Day as Angie. Mikaden Greene quotes, “It is only fun when you just start a relationship or are madly in love.” He thinks that it is a dread for most men and it’s just another day to spend money. He doesn’t care about it this year because he is single. He stated that he was just going to the gym and sleeping all day for the holiday. He liked that there was a half day this year at CCHS.
Cassidy Young, a freshman at CCHS, says that valentine’s day is fun and is a day to share with someone. She claims that she really likes it this year because her boyfriend Dominick is getting her things and she’s excited to see it. She says that she doesn’t know any history about the day but it is a fun holiday. She got interviewed after Valentine’s day and still felt the same way just a little happy. She had a great day and was glad to share it with her boyfriend.
Although students feel this way about Valentines Day, it does have an interesting history. It originates in ancient Roman and christian traditions. The day is named after Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr. Of course there is Cupid as well, he is the most famous thing about Valentine’s Day.
Most students interviewed didn’t know much about Valentine’s Day and didn’t seem to care much about the Holiday. Most said they would care more if it meant they had the day off though. Some students spend time with significant others, friends, or by themselves.
