The upcoming season of basketball is a very exciting time for the majority of high school students. This year at Carbondale we have a very full team with lots of talented players. Carbondale is looking to have a very promising season for basketball this year, we get a good insight to this season with the head coach of the boys team Coach Miller.
“You know it started in the spring last year, basketball season started in March, we started back up in April and kids have been working hard all spring, working hard all summer. In fall we started up again in early September, kids have been really working their backsides off preparing and developing the chemistry which is always important.”
“We’ve got good versatility in every position, we’ve got kids who can play the point, the two, the three, the four. Within our offense it’s very important that you learn every sport rather than being a point guard or being a five-man, you’ve got to be able to run a variety of spots within our system.”
“ I mean you rely on your senior leadership Coryion Keene, and then you rely on your experience, Jaxon Marlow-Evans, he’s the only returning starter from last year so we look at those two guys to really set the example for everybody both physically, mentally, effort wise. They’ve really done an outstanding job in helping us in that regard.”
Basketball is a team sport and Coach Miller is trying to create that environment where everyone gets better and can grow as the young team that they are. With the season schedule that they’re given the team is going to face tough competition such as Marion, Mt. Vernon, Centralia.
Coach Miller, the head basketball coach, plans to prepare his team for the upcoming season.
“The big goal is everyday get better, you know that’s the number one goal. I know that’s a cliché but you know with a younger and inexperienced group you can’t shoot for the stars, you gotta take baby steps and right now that’s what we’re trying to do everyday, at least take a step forward and trying not to go backwards. If we can do that I think we’ll reach our goals.”
