When people first hear the words AP or Honor when in relation to classes a lot of people have a misconception of those classes. Ap and Honors classes are offered in many different classes at CCHS but in this article I’ll be talking about AP Psychology which is offered your Junior and Senior year. People usually avoid taking these classes because they assume things about them. A lot of people assume that the classes are extremely hard, that only “gifted” students are in them, they only help you if you plan on going to college and many other things that just aren’t 100% true. While AP/Honors classes do require more effort and commitment they do offer a range of benefits. Mr.Hanson, a teacher at CCHS who teaches AP Psychology comments on some of these benefits.
“Be prepared to speak, be prepared to discuss, don’t be afraid to be wrong.”
“It’s not just about talking about your feelings, number one, you can do it, it’s not impossible, the brain test is definitely doable.”
Lena Debabneh on the topic of AP Psychology and advice to those who are thinking about taking it.
“Do it. Yeah, actually. I have had people ask me if they should take AP Psych and my advice is always you definitely should because of Mr.Hanson and because the material is just fun, like it’s not anything challenging like you can actually enjoy it.”
And when asked what misconceptions about AP/Honors classes that Lena wishes would stop.
“Probably the upperclassmen, that have taken the APs that I wanted to take personally like I always hear them say it’s so hard, you’re gonna dread, it’s so dreadful like you should start dreading it right now but I think you should go into it with the mindset that you’re actually going to do well and you’re gonna put your best foot forward and try hard. Because they’re not, like, unachievable. So like, I think people need to stop making them out to be harder than they actually are because like the difficulty of a class is subjective so like if somebody finds like AP Psych hard somebody else might not. So yeah, I think that there’s a misconception that they’re all like or most of them are like really hard or really easy or whatever but like you should probably stop listening to those in general and just like go into it wanting to do well and wanting to do everything it takes to do well.
