“In terms of PE, my favorite activity is rock climbing. Because one it’s very challenging and two you’ll get to see a lot of different attitudes and a lot of ways people get things done because it’s not a quote-on-quote normal thing and when students do it you see some of them freak out at first, but then you see how much joy they get when they accomplish it. So that’s one of my favorite things.”

“Physical exercise helps immensely because statistically and scientifically it’s been proven the more exercise you do the better brain functioning you have the better, you’re gonna feel, release stress, uh it makes you look better by that it helps you with your confidence levels and things like that. But um just overall it helps educational because it can clear out that fog feeling um you use it to really get to focus better once, you’re exercised.

“One of my most memorable ones was one of my first couple years of teaching rock climbing I had a student that was absolutely terrified to even try and by the end of the unit she got to the top of the wall and rang the bell the whole class clapped for her, she had a big smile on her face , and you could tell she was very excited about how she felt and it just makes you feel good , because you can see the success that students have from it and confidence they get from it.

“Um, I would say the biggest part is probably just trying to give them the ability to understand they have the ability to complete and do well at rock climbing. Um When I first talked to them I tell them the seriousness, the risk. I also tell them how safe it is. And teach them the correct way to do it so that they feel secure when they are doing it. But I also try to have fun with it and joke with them because it helps the people who are nervous with it.
