Moving can always be a hard thing to do for someone, but moving to a new school, in a new town, in the middle of the school year can be very difficult. My experience has been quite the dramatic change. I went to a public school in Missouri before I transferred here.
My first day was Monday, October 3rd, which for me was quite the shock to come into because this whole past week everyone had been preparing for homecoming. Carbondale students participate in spirit week much more than my old school which was honestly very funny to see. On Friday, everyone was in the hallways painting each other’s faces and wearing their class color shirts.
Carbondale is very different from my old school, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. At my old school we had a policy where we had to keep our phones and any bluetooth devices in a Youndr pouch which essentially locked up our phones until the end of the day. At Carbondale though we can have our phones out to an extent and have use of our bluetooth devices.
For some students it might be nerve-racking to come into a new school without knowing anyone, but luckily for me I already knew quite a few people. I have played with quite a few girls from the basketball team over the years and I have formed very strong friendships with them. They have been very supportive and welcoming introducing me to their friends here and everyone has been very nice.
Even though Carbondale is quite different from my old school, I’m very excited to continue my school year here.
