How the Penny War was started
Mrs. Brandi Jones initiated The Penny War, where any class had a 25% chance to win based on lunchtime effort. The Homecoming event ran from Tuesday to Thursday near the cafeteria, with promotion done through social media, banners, and emails.
Focusing on the Penny war
The Penny War at Carbondale Community High School was a friendly competition between grades to collect pennies for St. Jude, benefiting children with cancer and other illnesses. The donations would provide free medical care and support research. It was a chance for students to make a difference, cultivate compassion, and inspire community involvement.
The back story about St. Jude facility
The hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, was the first integrated children’s hospital in the South, treating patients of all races and employing African-American doctors, researchers and nurses. St. Jude is unique in that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food. This commitment to care for all children, regardless of the family’s ability to pay, comes from the founder’s vision to bring hope and healing to children in need. Children’s Research Hospital of St. Jude’s mission is to advance research and treatments to save the lives of children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
