“The Nun” directed by Corin Hardy is a new horror movie currently out in theaters. “The Nun” features many well-known actors such as Taissa Farmiga (Sister Irene), Bonnie Aarons (Sister Victoria), Demián Bichir (Father Burke), Jonas Bloquet (Frenchie), and many more familiar faces as well. The movie came out September 6th, 2018 and is rated R, and rated 28% on Rotton Tomatoes and has already made 18.2$M.

“The Nun” is based in Romania of 1952 in a supposed functioning Abbey, where a nun had taken her own life in the beginning of the movie. Taissa Farmiga’s character, Sister Irene and Demián Bichir’s character, Father Burke are sent to the Abbey to uncover what had happened, and talk to the other present nuns as well. Jonas Bolquet’s character, Frenchie, discovered the Nun’s body hanging in front of the Abbey, unaware of what he was about to uncover. Sister Irene and Father Burke were sent to Frenchie’s house since he was the one who founded the body, and asked him to take them to the crime scene.

While unaware of what dangers they were getting themselves into, they went inside of the Abbey and were to spend the night and wait until  morning to talk to the “present” nuns. While unaware of the unexpected turns they were getting themselves into, they had experienced many terrifying events throughout the night, and while trying to uncover the truth of what was lying in the Abbey.

I personally, felt that the movie could have taken a different approach with the plot. There were more jump scares than anything and I felt that the movie was put together rather poorly. While it had many connections the “The Conjuring” and put the puzzle together, it could have been better.

I really enjoyed how they showed what a nun has to go through before actually becoming a nun. While it didn’t show everything of what it’s like going through that process, they showed bits and pieces of it. I felt that the setting of the movie fit very well, and that the directors had chose a good time frame for this movie. While the movie really only had jump scares, I wouldn’t put this in the horror movie category.
