As the October 2nd powderpuff flag football game creeps closer, CCHS’s K-pop dance Team Continues to practice vigorously for their half time special. The team is eager to finally get out on that field and show the crowd what they have been working so hard on.
In an interview with Lara Oues, The current acting leader of K-Pop Dance Team, she provides some insight on the upcoming performance and what K-pop dance does, Oues responded “So we do performances of Korean pop groups,” Oues adds “[The songs] have… choreography, we like to learn those choreography, and perform it for various school events.” Oues then answered “We are doing [the song] Backdoor by Stray Kids.”
Lara Oues was then promptly questioned on the process of teaching and learning a new dance to perform, she responded simply “…the process is, as leader, I have to make formations and positions for the whole dance,… the other members… they have to learn the dance and polish the dance,” Oues continued “…We come together every Tuesday, Thursday and work it out.”
After being questioned about the original plan for their dance, Oues responded with “ So Originally, we had the idea that there should be two dances… last year we had a 10 minute halftime period. So we… [thought] we could kick in 2 songs and get this done in 8 minutes,” Oues then added “…but then halfway through, we realized that, oh, we actually have 5 minutes. So we just went with the dance that we were wanting to do more.”
Another member of the team, dancer, Unique Edwards, was also interviewed about their thoughts on the upcoming dance. Edwards was questioned about some of the struggles that come with learning a new dance alongside other members, “You don’t always have everybody because everyone has very busy schedules, so not everyone’s there on the same days.”
Then asked about her process when learning a dance, Edwards responded “I learn better when there’s people around me,” Edwards added “It’s kinda hard to do it on my own because I work better in a group setting.”
Edwards was then questioned about their thoughts about performing the dance and she responded enthusiastically ‘I can’t wait to perform this dance,” Edwards continued “…I’m so serious.”
