The Carbondale Community High School football team is 1-3 and have lost the last 3 games they played. They are going to Centralia to play a conference game. The team is trying to turn there season around and to keep them on track to have a shot at the playoffs.
They play Centralia (2-2) coming off of a 49-6 point game last week against Granite City. This week the Football team will be going to Centralia to play our third conference game. The Carbondale Terriers are having a very rough start to their season compared to their season last year where they went 7-2. Emmanuel Isspeih, a safety for the Terriers says “This week we are going to make sure to work on fine details and fix up all the small mistakes. We have lost three winnable games from small but important mistakes.” He thinks that the team can easily win and be a very good team if we just work together and focus on the small things.
Going into this next game the team is focusing on working together to work out the little problems they are facing. They will be trying to communicate better and not get into arguments within their own team and be able to stay focused on the main goal of just winning together. The team knows that their biggest weakness is getting in trouble because they can’t handle their tempers so they will be trying to put their anger out on the other team and make them pay rather than taking it out on the ref and making themselves pay.
Centralia is a team that we should be able to compete with very well because Centralia is 2 and 2 and they lost to the same team as us. The Centralia orphans have a pretty even record in the past with us but last year the Terriers beat on the Orphans when they won 49-39. But the year before they beat the Terriers.
The team knows they have what it takes to win; they just need to dig deeper and work as a team so they can come out victorious. Coach phen the offensive coordinator said “Our goal is to continue to get better at the things that we do well and make our strengths even stronger and take our weaknesses to better than what they were.” Coach Phen has been tweaking the offense and thinks that he finally has it figured out so that the offensive play style fits to all our spots where we excel.
If the team wants to go to the playoffs again then they will not be able to lose another game. The team knows they can make it and they know they will. They have what it takes but we have to try our hardest all the time. They need to stay focused in practice show up to all the lifting sessions and they will make it to the playoffs this year.
Most of the players on the team feel like they have put in so much effort to get ready for this season and they don’t want it to continue like how it is. The team knows they need to change and they are willing to go to extreme lengths to turn this season around.
