This article is to discuss the issue of tardiness in the school and suggests that students should be rewarded for being punctual. It highlights the negative impact of tardiness on student performance and suggests that rewarding students for being on time can help improve attendance and academic success.
Without the amazing PBIS Team at CCHS this would’ve never been possible. They strive every semester to try to come up with new incentives for our school community. These ideas were proposed to give kids a second chance to earn rewards that maybe they missed out on before.
We started this incentive in the beginning of the year to see if we could bring our attendance rates up and reach our goals for every quarter. So far this is going well and we hope to keep this as an incentive at CCHS next year for our students. Some students in CCHS really look forward to this reward every Friday.
At CCHS we started an incentive for students that come to school and who aren’t tardy to any classes for the week to receive a reward such as a gift card of their choice. This takes place every Friday during the announcements in the 7th hour before the bell.
It emphasizes the correlation between attendance and academic achievement, and highlights the benefits of regular attendance for student learning and development. During this assignment I interviewed our principal Mr. Thomas and he stated that “We started the gift card process as an incentive to reward good behavior as you get to every single class on time through the whole week”.
This has really improved and helped the students at CCHS during our weekly check ups to have something to look up to every week as a reward for their skills to improve their tardiness.
