Every year, Carbondale Community High School has a talent show where they raise money for the Dial Yearbook staff. This year, the talent show fell on February 24th and the stakes were high. The first, second, and third place all get monetary prizes starting at 50 dollars for third  place, second place receiving 100 dollars and first place receiving 250 dollars.

While talking to the director of the talent show, Brandi Jones,  she stated “this year it’s a wide variety of acts. In past years it’s been very sing heavy”.

This means the competition was very hard this year. All acts displayed their talents very well, but there were a few that stood out to the judges. Olivia Scott came in third place with her vocal solo. Second place was awarded to Yoonseo Jung with a piano solo that took a lot of preparation. Coming in first place was the band Unit 51, which consisted of Grant Hertzing on drums, Justin Grant on guitar and vocals, Liam Batteau on bass guitar, Francis Bu on keyboard, and Lucas Ratcliff on vocals and guitar.

As the night concluded, the band and all other acts joined each other on stage to sing and dance to “Free Fallin” by Tom Petty. They all were laughing and having a great time; the audience seemed to be really engaged. All in all, the atmosphere was very uplifting.
