Being a student is already hard enough, but having a job? That’s even more difficult when already in school. I would know, being a student worker myself.
Having to organize your time and plan your work schedule around your school schedule is something that many students struggle with when applying to jobs. Being a part of any after school activities could also affect the way your schedules align.
It’s difficult to find a balance between school and work, having to plan every second of it, to clubs and family activities, to hours of work that, at times, gives nothing in return.
I spoke with Zeina Infante, a working Carbondale Community High School senior, about her plan. “I had club, and I had to choose between that and work.”
There were times where I, myself, found some difficulty in balancing school with work. Even after deciding there are still some major issues with personal life activities. Leaving my clubs early to head to work, where, at times, my work wasn’t appreciated or recognized.
Many students tend to focus on one more than the other, school or work. It’s hard to focus on homework when your job demands so much of your time. Or when you’re at work, some tend to focus on completing school work instead of the task they are doing.
For some, it can be different. For CCHS senior Samantha Weiss, she says, “Depends on if I messed up or I’m stressed out.”
In some cases, it really does depend on how much one can handle. For others, they try their best to separate the two.
