In PE at Carbondale Community High School, we do cardio days Tuesdays and Thursdays. On cardio days, you are required to wear heart rate monitor watches. You have to stay active the whole hour keeping it in the multi-colored zone. If it is in the Blue, you don’t get points. Every person is required to get 27 minutes.
Some people go up to the cardio room and use the equipment up there. Others play volleyball, soccer, basketball, and others jog around the gym to make sure they get their points for the day. As everyone should be staying active, the PE teachers are monitoring the students making sure they are moving the whole time. At the end of the hour, the students then line up to turn in their watches so they can see how much time that they have stayed in the zone and how many points they got for the day.
Making sure the kids are active and healthy is very important to the PE teachers. Some people don’t understand the importance of cardio days at CCHS, but there is importance behind cardio days.
“We have cardio days to help keep students more healthy because not all students are active, some go on their phones or play video games. Cardio day is a way to make sure people are staying active and healthy.”
