Mac and Cheese: Confessions of a Hater

Mac and cheese: the most overrated, over hyped, and disgusting dish the world has ever seen has somehow weaseled into every nook and cranny of the culinary world. I truly do not understand why this “dish” has almost everyone in a chokehold.

I can understand that it’s a loved comfort food for many people, but what I can’t understand about the whole thing is… why? It’s lacking in nutritional value and has a bunch of additives and preservatives that are bad for your health.

When questioned about her fondness for mac and cheese, Kara Murray responded with, “I really love macaroni and cheese because it just feels like a warm hug.” Whatever that means. I, personally, think that there are more reasons to hate mac and cheese than to like them.

One of the main reasons to dislike mac and cheese is because of the bland taste. No matter what you add to it, it’s still gonna taste the same. In fact, it is the definition of bland. The cheese sauce is so boring. Regardless of how many types of cheese or what type of cheese, it’s still the same homogeneous concoction. If there was any type of seasoning added to it, it might be somewhat salvageable, but then it wouldn’t be mac and cheese anymore.

Another reason I hate it is because the texture is just nasty. It might just be me but I hate all foods with a creamy texture. I’ve had all types of mac and cheese. Boxed, homemade, microwaved, baked, with bacon or ham; I’ve had it all and I’ve never been able to get past that dreadful texture.

I think my strong dislike for mac and cheese might have started because of some not-so-great experiences I had eating it. I remember those times I was forced to eat it even when I was already full. That definitely didn’t help at all because my mild aversion to mac and cheese escalated to full-blown hate. Those memories have overshadowed any potential chances of enjoying the food.
