Senior year is one of the most important years of a student’s life. Students have to apply to colleges, if they haven’t already. They need to start figuring out what they want to do. Senior year can also make students very anxious. It’s a big thing to graduate from high school and start a life outside of it.

There are students who don’t know what they want to do once they graduate and that is okay. It’s a big thing to decide on. Some people take gap years and some do not. Everyone is at a different pace. Students that are part of the 2024 class will be graduating soon and some of the students do have some ideas of what they want to do after high school.

Cove Wooley is a current senior at Carbondale Community High School. Wooley is very excited to graduate and leave Carbondale. She says her senior year has, “Moved as quickly as she wanted it to do.” She is hoping to go into some type of Consumer Services career and she is also wanting to pursue a degree in music of some sort. Wooley is very nervous about college applications but cannot wait to graduate.

Cheyenne Nellis is another student from CCHS who says, “I’m looking forward to not having to go to school and being able to work more, and actually have time to spend with my friends and family”. Nellis is wanting to become a certified phlebotomist. She loves helping people and that’s why she chose that certain career. Nellis is having an okay year so far but she is very eager to graduate.

Karalyn Murray Is also a student who goes to CCHS. Murray is involved in a lot of school activities this year and really enjoys them. Murray states, “The real world will be scary and stressful, but I’m excited to get out there and do adult things.” She is excited to experience life outside of high school and ready to experience the college world and the freedom that comes with it. She isn’t exactly sure what career she wants to pursue but that is okay. Murray is interested in criminology and veterinary fields. She would like to hopefully either be involved with investigating murders/ crimes or helping animals with her future job.

All in all everyone goes at their own pace. Some know what they want to do, some do not know what they want to do which is perfectly okay. But one thing that seems to be common is that they are all excited to graduate and move on with life.
