Every year, college students go to the SIU campus of Southern Illinois University of Carbondale to begin their journey for starting their adulthood and pursue their higher education.
But unfortunately in the 1970’s a women named Susan had their life cut short in a brutally violent death. I asked my friends mom who works at SIU if she knew any information. She further explained that she knew the overpass was made for a memorial for Susan and that she saw a video on forensic file about this incident. After hearing this information and watching the video I learned that this murder was by a man who worked on a campus and that this wasn’t the only murder, there were many other women.
One of the reasons that Susan died was because she took a shortcut from the radio station known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The path was searched late on the night of August 18th and revealed some trampled weeds. Under closer inspection of the area of trampled weeds, the police found the nude deceased body of Susan Schumake. After officers believed she took this trail I believe SIU built a overpass for safer environment over by this trail to ensure a safer environment. Susan’s death made a change for the better.
