Tomorrow is Voter Registration Day for Seniors looking to be able to vote in any upcoming elections in the near future. This registration will take place online during Civics Class, where Seniors will submit the registration documents to allow them to vote in elections starting in March of this year. A lot of Seniors are looking forward to voting in elections, as they feel like its a step towards feeling like an adult in some ways.

As the day for the registration draws near, Seniors are getting more and more excited about the prospect of voting in the next election. The idea that you now have the power to have your say in the government is a very empowering thing. As Senior Kendall Browning puts it: “One of the things my Dad always used to tell me is that you shouldn’t complain about something unless you are willing to try to change it yourself. And it’s like, if I don’t agree with our government that I should at least try to vote the people who I don’t want in government out of government.”

As for the government and civics teachers, they are hoping for the best in their students and wanting for them to make the right decisions. One such teacher is Mr. Buss, who wishes the best for the Seniors he is teaching. When asked about what advice he would give to the new voters coming out of his classroom, he had this to say “Take the responsibility seriously because you have the right, but if you just walk in and you cast the ballot just to say that you did, with really no understanding of what it is that you are voting for, you are not really an active participant of the process. You are voting by definition, but are you really voting for what you believe in or what you want? So I would say take the process seriously and don’t just walk in there and throw away your ballot.” It must be noted that any applicants must bring a state ID or driver’s license, and the last 4 numbers of their Social Security Number in order to register, so be sure to remind your fellow seniors to bring those.
