Here’s my top 5 albums of 2019:

1. Summer WalkerOver It (Release Date: 10/19)

One thing for certain Summer Walker doesn’t look the way she sounds. Coming after her hit single in 2018, “Girls Need Love” , Walker drops “Over It”. Walker expresses familiar frustrations and relationships problems through her songs with some throwback sounds like “Come Thru” featuring Usher. The verses on this album sound like they could have been pulled straight from text messages or FaceTime calls. Walker’s words are so relatable they seem destined to become social media captions. During just the first week Summer’s album made it on the Billboards Top 200 charts as No. 2. “Over It” leaves fans wanting more.

2. YoungBoy Never Broke AgainAI YoungBoy 2 (Release date: 10/11)

YoungBoy didn’t let anything stop him from dropping his album not even jail sentences and some house arrest. On “AI YoungBoy 2”, YoungBoy expresses his love for jewelry, guns, money, and women but YoungBoy also tells us about his life growing up on songs like “Lonely Child”. The Baton Rouge rapper tells a story on every song he’s given us. With “AI YoungBoy 2” giving YoungBoy his first No. 1 on the Billiboard album charts and 145 million streams just last week, it’s clear this has been everyone’s favorite.

3. Young ThugSo Much Fun (Release date: 8/16)

Young Thug has paved the way for many rappers using his own style and everyone has loved him for it for a long time. The title “So Much Fun” describes the direct experience of listening to it. Thug gives us a twist on trap music with some video game scoring sounds and fantasy world like feels while listening to it. “So Much Fun” includes British slang on “Sup Mate” featuring Future and ad-libs from Michael Jackson on “Light It Up”. Because of So Much Fun”, Thug made No. 1 on the Billboard album charts after just one week of the release.

4. DaBabyKirk ( Release date: 9/27)

2019 has been great to DaBaby, after his hit single “Suge” shook the world, DaBaby dropped “Baby on Baby”, jumped on many major tracks like Lil Nas X “Panini”, Lizzo “Truth Hurts”, and MeganTheeStallion “Cash S**t” and even got put on the cover of XXL the same year he joined the music industry. DaBaby brought us “KIRK”, a dedicated to his father who passed early this year as DaBaby was gaining fame. On “Intro”, he goes deep into his family history and speaks on losing his father the same week the world lost Nipsey Hussle. Every verse is a chance for him to show his personality and usually has some storytelling to it. “Kirk” was named No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 album charts.

5. TinkVoicemails (Release date: 4/29)

Voicemails has been the first full-length project for Tink since 2016.  Voicemails shows her growth in the music industry from youth to early adulthood. On “Voicemails”, Tink talks about relationship drama on “Different” and trust issues in other songs. Tink also had a well-known favorite Dej Loaf jump on “Ride It” for a great collaboration.  “Voicemails” was put on the Billboards Top 200 album charts a little while after it dropped.
