If you’re a fan of video games there is no doubt that you are excited about this Friday, October 26. That is the day that Rockstar Games releases their latest open world game Red Dead Redemption 2 to the general public. Red Dead Redemption is set in the wild wild west following the life of a gang member on the run from the law. No matter what type of video games you are into, from mobile gaming to gaming on a high-end computer, there is no way to avoid the buzz surrounding RDR 2.

Rockstar is known for making some of the most popular games ever. With titles like Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne, the original Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Bully all selling record breaking numbers of games. Grand Theft Auto 5 was their most recent release, which has sold over 95 million copies. Rockstar has remained at the bleeding edge of game design for decades.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has some seriously large shoes to fill when it releases this Friday. Rockstar games of course is aware of the expectations that surround their games. Unlike most big name video game companies who try to release a new game every year or two Rockstar has remained unique in allowing their developers to take their time creating games. RDR 2 is no exception, the development of this game took a staggering eight years to complete.

The development window doesn’t automatically mean a game is going to be good. Rockstar is also known for pushing the boundaries of the genres their games are released in. RDR 2 is another opportunity for Rockstar Games to  innovate. This is where most of the hype surrounding this game stems from, RDR 2 is introducing a lot of features that have fans of open world games excited.

One of the most talked about new features to this game is the ability to start a conversation with any computer generated character in the game. In the past when playing an open world game almost everyone on screen was the same besides their appearance. Sometimes if the player got near the character they would say a line, but that was it. In RDR2, the player has the ability to  start a conversation with any character they see, and choose their responses, this can lead to arguments, fights, robberies, and possibly even missions.

Another new feature that seeks to add to the detail and realism of the game is self care. In most games the players character was not affected physically by the choices the player makes, but in RDR 2 every action seems to change the look of the main character. One of the most interesting and funniest examples of this is the ability to make the main character gain weight based of the amount of food they eat. Along with the ability to gain weight, the main character’s hair and beard will grow out dynamically if not shaved. The combination of these two features will no doubt lead to many people’s characters looking like Santa Claus.

It is safe to say that nearly everyone who knows that this game exists is eagerly awaiting its release this Friday. Many big name gaming journalism companies have already voiced their excitement for the game such as IGN and Gamespot. The official reviews for this game are also set to release before the game is shipped.
