The Carter V Review

The Carter V Review

LaRue Love

On September 28 Dwayne Carter Jr, commonly referred to as “Lil Wayne” dropped his long awaited album, The Carter V. This piece is Wayne’s twelfth studio album but what makes this album even more meaningful is that way back in 2011 Wayne dropped the fourth part of “The Carter” series The Carter IV, and hasn’t gave any music for those seven years until recently. In this I will review my favorite songs off the album and what makes them so good.

  1. Don’t Cry (feat. XXXTENTATION)

Thoughts: In this whole song Wayne’s voice is very calming to an extent with a surprise mix of deceased rapper XXXTENTATION, which makes this song even more emotional to the listener. The slick flow of Wayne’s raps mixed with the vocals of X make this song one of the most emotional out of the whole album with his audience in tears by the end of this song.

  1. Uproar

Thought: Fourth song into the album and you’re nodding your head at just how clean the beat is. Then when you actually start listening to the lyrics that Wayne’s raps it adds an even greater layer of a good fun song. This song as also in fact been made viral with people dancing along to it making it even more popular.

  1. Mona Lisa (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

Thoughts: This five minute track goes on about Wayne and Kendrick’s experience on lying women, and that already wowed me in just the creativity that was done to complete that. Having Wayne’s raps elaborate plan of using the women to rob high class men. Overall, this song by itself was well thought-out and excellent in every aspect.

  1. Open Letter

Thought: This track highlights the personal struggles that even someone like Lil Wayne goes though. He talks about how he was trying to kill himself in the past over things he had going on in his life. The track is a slow and precise melody and beat that would help convey the real meaning that he was trying to push to everyone in how bad things happen to everyone but that doesn’t mean you need to give up and give in.
