Terriers Off to a Hot Start
September 18, 2018
The Carbondale Terriers are off to a perfect start to open the season. The football team has won all of its first four games. They have victories over rival Murphysboro, Granite City, Waterloo, and Centralia. The Terriers are led by head coach Bryan Lee who is in his fourth season with the school. With Jakeba Burleigh leading the way at quarterback, the Terriers have a high powered offense that is averaging just over 33 points per contest. The defense has also looked decent, allowing only 22 points per game.
The Terriers need to win only one out of their final five regular season games in order to make the playoffs for the first time since 2013. That year, current SIU coach, Nick Hill, was the coach of the Terriers. Searching for that one win and more, the schedule is heating up for the team. The squad travels to face possibly their toughest game of the year at Cahokia against the Comanches. After this game, the team will play a weak Mount Vernon team for this year’s homecoming game. The Terriers should win this game to assure that they make the playoffs this year.
In order to continue the winning streak, the Terriers need to continue to see the offensive production that they have had in the first four games. The defense will also have to continue their solid play. With hype building up around the team, more and more fans begin to jump onto the Terriers’ bandwagon.
