Occupational Culinary Arts

Carbondale Community High School offers several options for elective classes. In fact, there are so many options that classes, such as Occupational Culinary Arts 1 and 2, don’t get the recognition they deserve.

Culinary Occupations 1 and 2 focus on the business aspect of the culinary field. Students taking the class learn what it’s like working together as a team in a restaurant setting. They also receive their food handler’s certification, as well as their Pre-Commis from the World Chef Academy in France.

Head chef David Chapin explains his thoughts about the  most important part of the class: “It’s. . . how many different students come in and how many students you befriend. You stick together and they retake the class and the journey of seeing everyone progress and get better and better.”

If you are interested in taking the course, talk to your counselor and request to be in Occupational Culinary Arts.
