With his 3rd place finish at the 2018 IHSA State Golf Tournament, Drew Hudgins officially has the highest finish in the tournament ever for a golfer at CCHS. After barely qualifying for state on his home course, no one expected Drew to even break the top 25 at the tournament, especially with the extreme cold and even snow that blew through Normal, IL during the competition.

However, Drew exceeded everyone’s expectations shooting a 72 or 1 over par to tie for second place.

The first round began on Friday, so Drew left Thursday from school with Coach Cook to get up to Normal. After a Thursday night meal at Hooters with Coach Cook, Hudgins rested before his big day.

Friday was the first day of action and Drew was one over par when the tournament was postponed due to the terrible weather conditions. Later in the day, all of the scores were cancelled as a result of the weather not being up to the IHSA regulations to be playing in.

Saturday was a new day, but Drew didn’t start off as hot. With a 39 on the back nine, he hadn’t separated himself from the competition until late in the front nine when he ended with three birdies in a row to cut his score down to 72, which eventually tied him for third.

His family traveled with him and cheered him on in the bitter cold while his friends stayed home but kept up to date on his score through the IHSA Golf website.

Drew summed up the weekend with a very fitting statement, “Golf plus snow equals wack.”

Great job Drew!!
